Kelowna extending trail to create 19.5-kilometre loop in city centre
KELOWNA, B.C. – A project to extend a paved multi-use trail in Kelowna will result in a continuous 19.5-kilometre loop of off-road pathways in the city’s urban centre.
Nearly $3 million in funding from Ottawa and the province was announced March 15 for the 1.5-kilometre extension project. Construction is set to begin in April and be completed by the end of the summer.
Visitors to the city on Okanagan Lake and local residents use the pathways for cycling, in-line skating and other activities.
Plans are, eventually, to further extend the network to the University of British Columbia (Okanagan campus), Kelowna International Airport and regions further north.
“Once complete, it will allow active travellers an uninterrupted, safe and enjoyable journey from downtown Kelowna through to the north Okanagan,” the city says on its website.
