BOSTON – Kevin Garnett is out of the lineup for the Boston Celtics as they try to stop the Miami Heat’s 22-game winning streak.
Garnett has the flu and a strain in his left thigh, coach Doc Rivers said before Monday night’s game. He said Garnett would have played if he didn’t have the flu.
Garnett missed Saturday night’s 105-88 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats with the thigh injury. The Celtics have won their last 11 home games starting with a 100-98 double-overtime win over the Heat on Jan. 27, Boston’s first game after Rajon Rondo sustained a season-ending knee injury.
Miami’s 22-game streak is tied with Houston for the second-longest in NBA history. The Celtics ended the Rockets’ streak five years ago to the day.
