“They did everything perfectly:” Couple struck by car on Coquihalla in critical but stable condition

KAMLOOPS – Two parents who were severely injured in a crash on the Coquihalla after tending to an accident in front of them are in critical but stable condition.

The family's pastor from Summit Drive Church, Dave Fields, read a statement on behalf of the family to media today, Feb. 8.

Matt and Anna Grandia along with their two children were on their way to Vancouver on Sunday for a family vacation in Hawaii when they arrived to a jack-knifed utility trailer, Fields said.

"According to the police they did everything perfectly, including pulling their truck ahead of the accident and to the side of the highway," Fields said. "Their two young children remained in the vehicle and out of danger."

But during their good samaritan act, Matt and Anna were hit by a car that spun out of control while they were trying to move debris.

"They're both in critical condition but as stable as possible and in excellent care," Fields said. "Our families are deeply grateful to God, so proud of Matt and Anna, overwhelmed with love and by love and full of hope."

The children were unharmed in the incident and are being cared for while their parents are in hospital in the lower mainland.

Fields said he and his wife were also proud of Matt and Anna and grateful to the community in Kamloops for rallying together to try and help.

A GoFundMe page for the family has exceeded its goal of $10,000, reaching up to nearly $31,000 at the time of publication.
