Victoria police have man in custody after victim dragged by truck

VICTORIA – Police in Victoria are investigating a hit-and-run accident where a man was dragged down a city street for half a block.

Police received several 911 calls Sunday night from those who watched a white truck run over a man and then take off with the man lodged under the truck.

The witnesses watched as the victim came loose and was then run over by the back wheels of the truck — only to be left lying in the middle of the street as the driver sped off again.

Police say the man was taken to Victoria General Hospital where he was treated and able to return home to recuperate from his injuries.

Detectives are investigating what may have been an argument between the driver of the vehicle and the victim.

A 34-year-old North Saanich man was arrested a few hours later and is expected to appear in court on possible charges of aggravated assault and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
