Backcountry skier dies in avalanche in eastern B.C.; 2nd death in 2 days

REVELSTOKE, B.C. – A 38-year-old man has died in an avalanche in Glacier National Park near Revelstoke in eastern B.C., the second avalanche death in two days in the province.

The RCMP say the man was with two other backcountry skiers when the slide came down Sunday afternoon.

His friends were able to dig him out and applied CPR, but by the time a Parks Canada team arrived by helicopter, the man had died.

The RCMP say the victim was from Revelstoke but they haven’t released his name.

The other skiers were not hurt and were removed from the area by helicopter.

It was the second avalanche death in B.C. in two days after a snowmobiler was killed in a slide west of Kimberley on Saturday.
