Gee-Gees, Redmen to play for fifth place after consolation round wins

VANCOUVER – Caleb Agada had 24 points and seven rebounds as the No. 3 Ottawa Gee-Gees edged the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 78-77 in consolation-round action on Friday at the CIS men’s basketball championship.

Mackenzie Morrison scored 16 points off the bench for Ottawa, which was upset by the Dalhousie Tigers in the quarter-finals.

Volodymyr Iegorov led the WolfPack with 21 points while Josh Wolfram had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Luke Morris added 15 points off the bench for the Canada West finalists.

In the other consolation matchup, David Wagner scored 21 points and Conor Morgan added 16 points as the McGill Redmen slipped past the host UBC Thunderbirds 69-68.

Jordan Jensen-Whyte and Philip Jalalpoor had eight points each for the Redmen, who shot 49 per cent from the field.

Dele Ogundokun and Jenning Leung scored 15 points apiece for No. 8 UBC. Michael Peterkin picked up eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

The Gee-Gees and Thunderbirds will meet in Saturday’s fifth-place game.

No. 1 Ryerson takes on Calgary while Dalhousie faces five-time defending champion Carleton in Saturday’s semifinals.
