Charges laid in 2015 Vernon robbery

VERNON – Almost a year and a half after a woman was dragged through the broken window of her car, charges have been laid in the assault.

RCMP say the incident occurred in August 2015 in a parking lot near 30 Street and 29 Avenue.

A woman sleeping in her car was awoken as her window was smashed and a man reached in and grabbed her purse and phone, according to an RCMP media release.

The woman, trying to hold on to her things, was dragged through the smashed window by the man and assaulted. The man fled afterwards on a bike with the woman’s possessions and evaded police.

Vernon RCMP have now charged Shane Gaudry, 31, with the robbery. Gaudry was in custody already for unrelated reasons. He will appear in court March 6.
