City of Kamloops leads the way in arena safety
The City of Kamloops is pleased to announce it is in the process of completing safety netting installations at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre’s NHL rink, Valleyview Arena, and Brock Arena.
The new netting will be installed from end to end at each rink, in front of all spectator seating areas, and will eliminate the risk of injuries from errant pucks, which will make the arenas safer for patrons.
The project is the first of its kind in B.C. and will cost the City $19,000.
Jeff Putnam, Parks and Civic Facilities Manager, is “proud to see Kamloops leading the way in making its arenas safer for patrons.”
He said it “increases the quality of services that Kamloops, as the Tournament Capital of Canada, can offer.”
The remaining rinks in Kamloops (Memorial Arena, McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre Olympic Rink, and the Sandman Centre) already have side glass heights equivalent to Western Hockey League standards and do not require safety netting.
