Several injured as fire rages in a Denver apartment building

DENVER – Authorities say a fire raging in a Denver apartment building trapped some residents and left several people injured.

Denver Health Medical Center said early Monday that two patients are in critical condition, while three are serious, and six are fair.

The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/1RzDSXG ) that firefighters rescued some trapped residents from the second-floor blaze late Sunday night, after others jumped.

Denver Fire Department spokesman Lt. Ahmid Nunn says several ambulances were called to the scene.

Crews blocked off several area streets as they fought the fire at the Federal View Apartments, just southwest of downtown.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire, which was quickly contained after firefighters reached the scene.

The Post says a nearby public school was open for people displaced by the fire.
