TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (12,484.05 up 139.50 points):
Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up eight cents, or two cents on $4.08 on 5.90 million shares. Wall Street Journal reported that Porter signed a letter of intent with the plane and train maker in December for the CSeries jets. Porter currently uses only the smaller Bombardier Q400 turboprop planes in its fleet.
Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Gold miner. Up 40 cents, or 1.49 per cent, at $27.16 on 4.38 million shares. The gold sector led the advancers on the main index, climbing 3.41 per cent to 241.20 points. The price of the bullion jumped US$14.20 to $1,586.70 per ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up 14 cents, or 0.99 per cent, at $14.26 on 3.98 million shares. The financials subgroup was up 0.67 per cent to 192.61 points.
Suncor Energy (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up 90 cents, or 3.11 per cent, at $29.84 on 3.87 million shares. The energy sector was up 2.41 per cent to 248.63 points as the price of the crude oil gained 84 cents to US $94.20 per barrel.
Lundin Mining Corp. (TSX:LUN). Miner. Up 29 cents, or 6.79 per cent, at $4.56 on 3.53 million shares.
Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 64 cents, or 4.43 per cent, at $15.08 on 3.48 million shares.
Toronto Venture Exchange (1,054.77 up 13.38 points):
Renegade Petroleum Ltd. (TSXV:RPL). Oil and gas. Down 10 cents, or 6.49 per cent, at $1.44 on 4.34 million shares.
Sea Dragon Energy Inc. (TSXV:SDX). Oil and gas explorer. Up 1.5 cents, or 21.43 per cent, at 8.5 cents on 2.85 million shares.
Companies reporting major news:
Agrium Inc. (TSX:AGU). Fertilizer producer. Down $2.80, or 2.82 per cent, at $96.53 on 1.04 million shares. The entire board of directors nominated by the company have been elected to the board, shutting down activist investor Jana Partners, Agrium’s largest shareholder, who had forward five of its own nominees.
BlackBerry (TSX:BB). Wireless technology. Up four cents, or 0.08 per cent, at $51.73 on 697,755 million shares. Canadian wireless carriers have begun to accept presales for the BlackBerry Q10 physical keypad smartphone. The device is expected to arrive in stores by the end of the month.
