New Brunswick’s nuclear power plant to be offline for seven weeks of maintenance
FREDERICTON – Atlantic Canada’s only nuclear generating station will be taken offline for about seven weeks on April 1 for regularly scheduled maintenance.
NB Power President Gaetan Thomas says ongoing planned maintenance is essential to getting the most out of the Point Lepreau plant in the long run.
He says more than 600 contractors and tradespeople will support NB Power in performing about 13,000 planned maintenance activities on both the conventional and nuclear components of the generating station.
Thomas says changes to the substation that connects Point Lepreau to the power grid are expected to save the utility about $3 million per year.
Point Lepreau is a 660 megawatt power station that produces enough electricity to power more than 333,000 homes per year.
