VANCOUVER – A New Democrat government would raise more than $300 million in their first year in office with tax increases and cancellation of Liberal programs.
NDP finance critic Bruce Ralston says by their third year in power, that will have grown to almost $1 billion for new spending.
Among the increases, the NDP would extend the carbon tax to the oil and gas industry and cancel the Liberals’ Registered Education Savings grants program and its Early Years strategy.
Ralston says the New Democrats have inherited a deficit budget, despite what the Liberals say, but will balance the budget by year four.
He says spending details will be released next week as part of the party election platform
