Trudeau: If Liberal leader, I’ll stay positive despite Conservative attacks

OTTAWA – Justin Trudeau says if he becomes Liberal leader, he’s determined to stay positive even in the face of what’s likely to be a withering Conservative attack-ad campaign.

Trudeau tells The Canadian Press that he knows he’ll be taking “a bit of a gamble” by refusing to indulge in personal attacks or negativity.

But he says he’s convinced Canadians are looking for a leader who is willing to take the high road.

The Montreal MP says Canada’s next Liberal leader is sure to face a barrage of Conservative attack ads, similar to those that so effectively trashed the party’s past two leaders, Stephane Dion and Michael Ignatieff.

That said, Trudeau says he has no intention of letting the attacks go unanswered.

He says he won’t sit back and be pushed around, but nor will he resort to personal politics, because he says Canadians are sick and tired of the negativity.
