Mike and Dawn McEwen remain unbeaten at Canadian mixed doubles curling playdowns
SASKATOON – The husband-and-wife team of Mike and Dawn McEwen remained unbeaten at the Canadian mixed doubles curling championship on Friday with a 10-5 victory over Sherry Just and Derek Samagalski.
The win gave the McEwen duo a 4-0 record after eight draws of round-robin play at the Nutana Curling Club. They shared first place in Pool C with defending champions Kalynn Park and Charley Thomas.
There are four pools in the 32-team competition.
In Pool A, Rachel Homan and Mark Nichols were 4-0 along with Laura Crocker and Geoff Walker. Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant led Pool B at 4-0 and Marliese Kasner and Dustin Kalthoff led Pool D at 4-0.
Four more draws were scheduled for later Friday.
The top 12 teams will advance to the single-elimination playoff. The gold-medal game is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
The winning team will represent Canada at the world mixed doubles championship later this month in Karlstad, Sweden.
