Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,004.88 down 332.71 points):

Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G). Gold producer. Down $1.69, or 5.62 per cent, at $28.38 on 33.59 million shares. The Vancouver-based company surpassed Barrick Gold (TSX:ABX) as the leading gold miner by market capitalization. The gold sector has been taking a beating as price of the bullion plunged to its lowest level in more than two years. The June gold contract lost its lustre, closing down US$140.30 to $1,361.10 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Oil and gas. Down $1.43, or 4.57 per cent, at $29.85 on 21.9 million shares. The energy sector was one of the biggest decliners, tumbling 4.04 per cent to 234.78 points. The price of crude oil dropped US$2.58 to $88.71 per barrel.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Down $2.64, or 11.51 per cent, at $20.30 on 11.06 million shares. The giant gold producer closed at its lowest level since late 2000. Apart from the falling bullion price, Barrick is also dealing with a decision by a Chilean court to stop construction on its $8-billion Pascua Lama mine.

Osisko Mining Corp. (TSX:OSK). Miner. Down $1.07, or 20.94 per cent, at $4.04 on 10.5 million shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Down 87 cents, or 13.57 per cent, at $5.54 on 10.10 million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Down $1.12, or 8.44 per cent, at $12.15 on 8.31 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (958.26 down 64.36 points):

Pinecrest Energy Inc. (TSXV:PRY). Oil and gas explorer. Down eight cents, or 7.41 per cent, at $1 on 6.28 million shares.

New Guinea Gold Corp. (TSXV:NGG). Mine explorer. Down half a cent, or 50 per cent, at half a cent on 5.73 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Bombardier Aerospace (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down 11 cents, or 2.74 per cent, at $3.91 on 3.88 million shares. Bombardier Transportation signed a contract valued at $199 million with the State of Florida Department of Transportation for operations and maintenance services.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Down $1.32, or 4.58 per cent, at $27.50 on 4.98 million shares.The Calgary-based company is selling the bulk of its Western Canadian natural gas business to a British-Qatari partnership for $1 billion. Production from the business is estimated to be about the equivalent of 42,000 barrels of oil per day this year.
