Mooseheads win QMJHL draft lottery, will pick first on June 4 in Charlottetown

MONTREAL – The Halifax Mooseheads won the lottery on Thursday and will select first overall at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft on June 4 in Charlottetown.

The drawing was between the two bottom teams in the 18-team league — the last-place Baie Comeau Drakkar and 17th-place Halifax.

The Mooseheads also hold the seventh and 15th picks in the first round.

Former Mooseheads star Nathan MacKinnon, now with the Colorado Avalanche, tweeted “Congrats!! Hopefully he won’t hold out!:)”

The tweet was a joking reference to some top picks in the past who refused to join the team that drafted them.
