New Penticton arts festival to launch in September

PENTICTON – The Penticton arts scene is expanding with the announcement of a new, multi-disciplinary arts festival to be held this September.

The Penticton and District Arts Council has announced it will host the first annual Artsrising Arts Festival from Sept. 21 to Sept. 24.

Artsrising will see the return of the Relmagine Street Art Festival that was last hosted by the Downtown Penticton Association in 2011, and include the new Snakebite Film Festival which will screen films produced by local amateur filmmakers, according to a media release.

Wearable art will be featured in ARTwear, and art galleries throughout the city will stage open houses, artist talks, demonstrations and music.

The arts council is extending an invitation to the community to join the inaugural festival as they seek community volunteers, artists, business partners, retailers, stakeholders and restaurants to participate in a number of ways.

Residents interested in participating are invited to an official information night on March 20 at the Leir House, located at 220 Manor Park Dr, starting at 7 p.m.

New members are welcome to join the Penticton Arts Council by registering at the Leir House during office hours or by visiting the website here.
