Minnesota Timberwolves open search for new president, coach

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Timberwolves say they have relieved interim coach Sam Mitchell of his duties and will open a search for a new coach and a new president of basketball operations.

The Wolves made the announcement on Wednesday night after finishing the season with a win over New Orleans. Mitchell took over as coach after Flip Saunders died in October and led the team to a 29-53 record.

General manager Milt Newton will remain on while the search is conducted. The new president will then make a full evaluation of the staff.

Team owner Glen Taylor says it’s important to find the best leadership team going forward to lead a roster full of young talent. The Timberwolves have hired a search firm to aid the process.
