USOC CEO Blackmun says 10 cities interested in bidding for 2024 Summer Olympics
The chief executive of the U.S. Olympic Committee says about 10 cities have expressed interest in bidding for the 2024 Summer Games, including a proposed joint candidacy from San Diego and Mexican neighbour Tijuana.
The USOC sent out letters in February to 35 American cities to gauge interest in a potential bid.
Scott Blackmun says, “We’re in discussion with about 10 cities actively now.”
Los Angeles and Philadelphia have announced their interest, and Blackmun says San Diego and Tijuana have approached the USOC about a joint bid.
Blackmun declined to identify the other cities. He said three cities have formally said they are not interested in bidding.
Blackmun told the Associated Press Sports Editors in New York on Friday, “We don’t want to submit a bid we don’t think we can win.”
