Big growth is likely in store for Georgia’s film industry, with plans of major studio projects

ATLANTA – Georgia’s film industry is booming, and big plans are in the works for major studio projects.

For years, Georgia’s been a prime location for filming and now is seeing tens of millions of dollars invested to build critical infrastructure. At least five major studio developments or expansions have been announced in recent months.

The state estimates that productions filmed in Georgia last fiscal year generated $3.1 billion in economic impact, a 29 per cent increase from the year before.

Gov. Nathan Deal says Georgia is an attractive film destination largely because of its tax incentive program, which provides a 20 per cent tax credit for companies spending $500,000 or more on production and post-production in the state. An additional 10 per cent credit is available if the finished project includes a state promotional logo.
