TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. – An Alberta man has died after going over a cliff while snowmobiling in northeast B.C.
The RCMP say the accident happened Sunday in a back country area 70 kilometres southeast of Tumbler Ridge.
A group of about six people were on snowmobilers when a 49-year-old male from Valhalla, Alta., was running up a mountain face.
Police say he appeared to lose control of his machine and ended up going over the cliff on the other side.
Another member of the group used a satellite phone to call a friend and a search and rescue helicopter was sent into the area.
The man was found dead and his body was airlifted to hospital in Grande Prairie, Alta.
