TAMPA, Fla. – Toronto Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ is expected to be released from hospital later today after being hit in the head with a batted ball Tuesday night.
The left-hander was hit squarely on the left side of his head by Desmond Jennings’ second-inning liner during Toronto’s 6-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
He was immobilized on a backboard, lifted onto a stretcher and wheeled off the field.
He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where the Blue Jays say he was “responsive and doing well.”
The team says he has a head contusion and a laceration to his left ear.
The Jays say they expect he will be discharged later in the day after further testing.
