A final burlesque performance at The Blue Grotto before the end of monthly shows

KAMLOOPS – Some might call it the end of an era, as the monthly burlesque performances at the Blue Grotto in Kamloops come to an end this week.

Co-owner of the night club Kathy Willey says although the dancers won't be there every month, this isn't the last the Blue Grotto has seen of them.

"It was just a decision we came to mutually," Willey says. "It was six years they were with us and I think we’re just moving in different directions… I don’t think it’ll be the end, it’ll just be the end of regular shows."

Willey says Kamloops Burlesque has grown in popularity over the years, which means their schedule is getting busier. She says unique entertainment like this is what Kamloops needs.

"It’s definitely something different for Kamloops," she says. "It was a hard decision for all of us. We have so enjoyed all their glitter, everything. It really has been so much fun."

Fans of the performers have voted for their favourite burlesque acts, which will be showcased at the farewell show for the dancers this Thursday, April 13. Willey says one of the best things she has seen over the years is women becoming more confident in themselves.

"Those gals are dedicated far beyond anything I've seen," Willey says. "(It's) pretty cool to watch somebody become extremely confident with themselves."

Tickets for the show can be purchased at kamtix.ca or at The Blue Grotto before the show. Tickets start at $5 and doors open at 8 p.m. A specific time for the show has yet to be set, but Willey says it will begin at either 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m.

Devon Coyote will also be performing afterward.
