Calgary woman accused of killing 2 newborns granted bail until her trial resumes
CALGARY – A Calgary judge has granted bail to a woman accused of killing two of her newborns.
Meredith Borowiec (BOHR’-oh-wick) has been in custody since her arrest 18 months ago.
She is charged with second-degree murder after two infants were place in garbage bags and thrown away — one in 2008 and the other in 2009.
Borowiec’s trial was scheduled to last six weeks but because of its length had to be adjourned until November.
One of the conditions imposed by Justice Peter McIntyre was that Borowiec use birth control through an IUD device to prevent further pregnancies.
Borowiec faces a separate trial for attempted murder for a third child found in a garbage bin in 2010 that survived.
