Evan Huffman takes over top spot after strong Stage 3 at Tour of Alberta

DRAYTON VALLEY, Alta. – American Evan Huffman took over the lead at the Tour of Alberta on Saturday after a strong Stage 3.

Huffman, of Rally Cycling, completed the 181.2 kilometres Clearwater County to Drayton Valley circuit in four hours four minutes five seconds — the top time of the day.

Huffman’s overall time of 10:34:25 gives him a two second advantage over fellow American Robin Carpenter (10:34:27) of Holowesko-Citadel cycling team for the Province of Alberta jersey.

Ottawa’s Alexander Cataford of Silber Pro Cycling retained the Best Canadian jersey with the fifth fastest time in Stage 3 (4:04:12). His total time of 10:34:46 is good for sixth overall with two stages remaining.

Colin Joyce, of the Axeon Hagen Berman cycling team, held the Province of Alberta jersey for the first two stages but the American fell back to third with the seventh fastest time on Saturday (4:04:16). Joyce is 10 seconds behind Huffman (10:34:45).

Stage 4 of the five-stage circuit goes Sunday with a 12.1-kilometre time trial in Edmonton. The final stage is Monday and consists of a 124.1-kilometre trek around the city.
