Salmon Arm RCMP hand out nearly 30 traffic tickets in three hours

SALMON ARM – Driving infractions were plentiful in Salmon Arm earlier this week as Mounties cracked down on drivers.

On May 3, the Salmon Arm RCMP detachment and Provincial Highway Patrol Unit conducted a traffic blitz in the Trans Canada Corridor in Salmon Arm, Sgt. Scott West says in a release.

The blitz involved seven officers and focussed on high risk motor vehicle offences, such as the use of electronic devices while driving, West says. Various intersection violations were also targeted.

Police issued a total of 29 violation tickets over a three hour period, with 13 being for intersection violations, 12 for high risk offences and four for various other offences.

“The Salmon Arm RCMP want to remind drivers that the use of any hand held electronic device while driving is prohibited, including cell phones being used on speaker mode while held in one's hand. Distracted driving carries a fine of $368," West says in the release.
