Swimming Australia President Nettlefold resigns in face of conduct investigation

SYDNEY – Swimming Australia President Barclay Nettlefold has resigned amid accusations of inappropriate behaviour towards a female colleague.

The national body launched an investigation after a complaint that Nettlefold made inappropriate remarks to a female staff member during the national swimming titles in Adelaide last month, and a second similar accusation concerning an unidentified person.

In a statement on Sunday, Nettlefold said he made some comments in jest to colleagues that, he said, “were not consistent with the standards expected of me.”

Nettlefold said his “decision to step down will ensure the significant progress and substantial positive change to the sport of swimming in this country continues.”
