Federation of Canadian municipalities names Lachine mayor as new president

VANCOUVER – The mayor of Lachine, Que. will become the new president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

Claude Dauphin was elected by delegates on Sunday at the FCM’s annual meeting in Vancouver

Dauphin, a lawyer by profession says he is committed to serving every one of the two-thousand municipalities that the FCM represents.

Dauphin has been in politics for 32 years.

Before he was first elected to municipal office in 2001, he did a stint in the Quebec legislature and was a senior advisor to Finance Minister Paul Martin between 1997 and 2001.
