B.C. premier expected to make byelection announcement in Kelowna riding
VICTORIA – B.C. Premier Christy Clark is heading to Kelowna today, where she is expected to announce her intention to run in a byelection in a riding currently held by Ben Stewart, the minister of citizens services and open government.
Clark has scheduled a 2 p.m. news conference at a winery owned by Stewart.
Clark lost her seat in the Vancouver-Point Grey riding in the May 14 election.
Stewart was first elected in 2009 and has held several cabinet posts for the Liberals.
His Westside-Kelowna riding is considered safe Liberal territory, with Stewart capturing 58 per cent of the vote in the most recent election.
The NDP’s David Eby won against Clark in the Vancouver riding after his second attempt to unseat her.
