RBC Canadian Painting Competition increases total prize money to $115,000

TORONTO – The RBC Canadian Painting Competition has increased its total prize money to $115,000 to celebrate its 15th anniversary.

The annual competition usually gives $25,000 to a national winner and $15,000 to two honourable mentions.

But this year, it’s also awarding an additional $5,000 to each of the other 12 finalists.

This year’s 15 finalists hail from Vancouver, Guelph, Ont., Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Vancouver, Brooklyn, N.Y., Delta, B.C., and Saskatoon.

The competition, which is supported by the Canadian Art Foundation, honours promising new artists in the early stages of their careers.

A regional jury panel of arts community members selects five finalists from their regions, which include Eastern, Central, Western Canada.

The winner and two honourable mentions will be announced Oct. 2 and become part of the RBC corporate art collection.
