Father’s Day events abound this weekend in Penticton

PENTICTON – There are plenty of ways to celebrate Father's Day this weekend in Penticton and the South Okanagan.

The Rotary Club of Summerland hosts a charity Road Rally and Lobster Dance on Saturday, June 17, in a fundraising event designed to promote Summerland businesses.

All proceeds raised go to support community and international projects. Dinner is $50 per person, road rally is $40. Registration takes place at 12:30 p.m. at the parking lot of the Summerland IGA. For more information see the rotary road rally website.

Penticton’s annual bridge tournament completes its five day run on Sunday, June 18. Cost is $15 per session for all ACBL members, $19 per session for non-members.

Friday, June 16 is Elvis Evening at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

Pirate-themed fun and mayhem for the whole family can be found at the SS Sicamous on Sunday,  June 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a bouncy mountain, duelling with noodle swords, temporary tattoos and a chance to walk the plank at the Children’s Pirate Festival. Several wine events are taking place at various wineries around Penticton this weekend, including:

  • The summer lobster luncheon on Saturday, June 17 at Township 7 Winery. Cost is $55.
  • Sip Merlot and Flow combines wine and yoga at Township 7 Winery,  Saturday, June 17 from 9 to 10 a.m. Cost is $10 to $12.
  • Wine, tacos and live music in the vineyard at the Meyer Family Vineyard in Okanagan Falls on Saturday, June 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $25 per person.
  • The Nota Bene Release Party takes place Saturday, June 17, at Black Hills Estate Winery, from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $199 for the release of the winery’s 2015 vintage of its signature wine, epicurean treats from top chefs, and high-profile musical performance.
  • The one act play “Graceland” shows Saturday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Bench 1775 Winery. Tickets are $10 each in advance at Bench 1775, or at the door. For more information, seen the Bench 1775 web page.
  • On Sunday, June 18, celebrate Fathers Day at Noble Ridge’s Stampede Breakfast and wine club pick-up party.
  • The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a cost of $15, at Noble Ridge Vineyard in Okanagan Falls.

The Penticton Farmer’s Market and the Downtown Community Market operate Saturday morning, June 17 on Penticton’s downtown Main Street. The Farmer’s Market operates from 8:30 a.m to 1 p.m., the Community Market from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In Summerland, the Rotary Sunday Market operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, June 18.

Oscar Lopez entertains this Saturday, June 17 at The Dream Cafe. Showtime is 8 p.m.

The Cannery Brewing Co. presents Lisa Anderson Music on Sunday, June 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in a free venue.

The Heritage Players present "Dirty Work at the Stopping Place" a Father's Day melodrama at the Grist Mill in Keremeos. The Heritage Players present two shows on Sunday, June 18 at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. For more information contact the Grist Mill at 250-499-2888.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
