Raptors coach says he’s ready to begin preparing for season alongside new GM
TORONTO – Dwane Casey can breathe a sigh of relief knowing his role as head coach of the Toronto Raptors is secure, at least for the time being.
But Casey says he has been preparing for the upcoming season as if his future was not in doubt, even with the uncertainty around his job that had arisen since new GM Masai Ujiri came to town in May.
The Raptors began their 2012-2013 campaign full of promise, having signed young Lithuanian Jonas Valanciunas and acquiring Kyle Lowry and Landry Fields through trades during the off-season. But under Casey, they finished the season with a 34-48 record, missing the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.
Casey says he’s excited to begin preparing for the upcoming season alongside Ujiri and says the two share the same vision and values.
The 56-year-old Casey joined the Raptors after winning the NBA championship as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011.
In two seasons with the Raptors, Casey has amassed a 57-91 record.
