TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (11,951.90 down 53.51 points):
Telus Corp. (TSX:T). Telecommunications. Down $2.67, or eight per cent, at $30.70 on 9.79 million shares. Canada’s largest telecom companies were hit hard after a report surfaced that U.S. telecom giant Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) is negotiating to move into the Canadian cellphone market.
Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX:RCI.B). Telecommunications. Down $4.22, or 9.20 per cent, at $41.67 on 9.75 million shares.
Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down 10 cents, or 2.14 per cent, at $4.57 on 8.28 million shares. Bombardier announced that the inaugural test flight of the company’s new CSeries jet has been delayed by a month until the end of July.
CML HealthCare Inc. (TSX:CLC). Medical laboratory. Down 12 cents, or 1.13 per cent, at $10.48 on 8.17 million shares. The company’s stock slid a day after LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services announced a friendly, $1.22-billion takeover for CML.
BCE Inc. (TSX:BCE). Media and telecommunications. Down $1.75, or 4.04 per cent, at $41.57 on 6.20 million shares.
Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Down $1.41, or 8.34 per cent, at $15.50 on 5.78 million shares. The gold sector suffered the biggest percentage decline on the TSX as the August bullion contract fell $45.30 to a three-year low of US$1,229.80 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Toronto Venture Exchange (860.84 down 21.53 points):
Sintana Energy Inc. (TSXV:SNN). Oil and gas explorer. Down a penny, or 12.50 per cent, at seven cents on 6.93 million shares.
Donner Metals Ltd. (TSXV:DON). Metal explorer. Down 1.5 cents, or 15.79 per cent, at eight cents on 3.97 million shares. The Vancouver-based company’s stock slid for a third day in a row after announcing a private placement to raise a total of $4.5 million to be used for its projects in Quebec and for share capital.

Alimentation Couche-Tard (TSX:ATD.B). Convenience store chain. Up 16 cents, or 0.26 per cent, at $60.86 on 212,012 shares. An executive of Mac’s Convenience Stores, which is owned by Couche-Tard, said it would create 1,600 full-time jobs if its Ontario stores are allowed to sell beer, wine and spirits.Ontario’s Finance Minister Charles Sousa said he wouldn’t rule it out.
Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB). Oil and gas. Up nine cents, or 0.20 per cent, at $4.08 on 1.30 million shares. The Calgary-company says it has restored services to more of a regional pipeline system it operates, but that a segment between Fort McMurray, Alta., and the Cheecham Terminal remains offline after a leak on the weekend.
SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (TSX:SNC). Up 53 cents, or 1.2 per cent, at $44.56 on 374,383 shares. The Montreal-based company said that a gas project in the United Arab Emirates was used as a cover to transfer $13.5 million to unknown agents, a portion of the $56 million in questionable payments identified by the company in an internal investigation last year.
