OTTAWA – Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird is heading to the Far East this weekend.

Baird’s office says he leaves Sunday for Brunei and China.

In Brunei, Baird will attend a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The minister’s office says Baird will try to deepen relations and increase Canada’s engagement with his colleagues from across the Asia-Pacific region.

Merchandise trade between Canada and the countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations was $15.8 billion last year.

Baird will then head to China to meet with the country’s new leaders.
