Military police helping OPP investigate stabbing near CFB Petawawa

PETAWAWA, Ont. – A manhunt is underway in Petawawa after an alleged stabbing in the small Ontario town left one person dead and others wounded.

Sgt. Kristine Rae says the Ontario Provincial Police received a 911 call shortly before 11 a.m., and officers found a dead adult at the home when they arrived.

She says police dogs and helicopters are now combing the area for the suspect or suspects.

Rae says some people were also wounded in the alleged attack.

Military police at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa are helping police.

Capt. Sally-Ann Cyr, a spokeswoman for the base, says the alleged stabbing did not occur at CFB Petawawa, about two hours northwest of Ottawa.

She says the identity of the suspect and the victims are unknown, and she does not know at this time whether the incident involved anyone from the base.

Cyr adds military police from the base often assist the local provincial police detachment.
