Heat wave to hit B.C. on Canada Day long weekend: Environment Canada
Record-setting temperatures are expected to hit British Columbia this long weekend as Environment Canada forecasts temperatures to soar above 32 degrees in many areas.
Forecaster Doug Lundquist says it will get even hotter in the Okanagan and most of the southern Interior where temperatures could reach 40 degrees this weekend and into next week.
A special weather statement issued by Environment Canada says a massive ridge of high pressure will bring hot air from the U.S. desert, causing temperatures to rise several degrees each day on the South Coast.
The heat wave is expected to break by Wednesday.
Lundquist says Environment Canada will be watching for the possibility that this weekend’s weather will break an all-time high record for the province.
He says the hot weather is arriving a week ahead of what is usual in B.C., but the extreme temperatures are not unique for the beginning of July. (CKFR, The Canadian Press)
