Judge orders pair who fundraised for homeless man to testify

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. – An at-times frustrated judge has ordered the New Jersey couple responsible for raising $400,000 online for a homeless good Samaritan to give sworn testimony over what happened to the money.

Superior Court Judge Paula Dow said Wednesday that Katie McClure and Mark D’Amico must appear Monday for a deposition in a suit filed by Johnny Bobbitt over the whereabouts of the cash raised through GoFundMe.

Dow chastised McClure and D’Amico’s attorney over “grandstanding” and said his clients have to appear in person to assert their right against self-incrimination.

Bobbitt was also ordered to be deposed.

Bobbitt got McClure gas late one night in 2017 when she was stranded. She later set up a GoFundMe page for him, but the relationship soured. It’s unclear what happened to the money.

McClure and D’Amico have denied any wrongdoing.
