Benches, bullpens empty after Hunter is hit during Tigers-Jays game, but no punches thrown

TORONTO – Both benches and both bullpens emptied after Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter took exception to being hit by a high pitch from Blue Jays reliever Todd Redmond in the sixth inning of Wednesday night’s game.

Hunter took a few steps toward the mound and gestured at Redmond after being hit on the left shoulder with none out and the Tigers leading 6-0.

Plate umpire Mike Estabrook quickly steered Hunter away and he was wrapped up by teammate Prince Fielder.

No punches were thrown, and the relievers from both teams were pointed back to their bullpens before reaching the infield.

The incident came two innings after Tigers infielder Omar Infante departed the game with an injured left leg after he was hit on the shin by Colby Rasmus on a slide into second base.
