Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,208.87 up 73.96 points):

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX:SGY). Oil and gas. Down four cents, or 0.69 per cent, at $5.76 on 10.4 million shares. Oil prices were little changed after unrest in Egypt helped push the price of crude up seven per cent last week. The August crude contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange dipped eight cents to US$103.14 a barrel.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up one cent, or 0.07 per cent, at $14.58 on 9.6 million shares. Mining stocks, which lead TSX sector declines for the year so far, fared poorly with the base metals sector down 0.13 per cent while copper prices edged up three cents to US$3.10 a pound after sliding 11 cents on Friday. The gold sector was down 1.5 per cent even as bullion prices headed higher amid a sign that the recent steep price drop may be coming to an end. The August bullion contract on the Nymex rose $22.20 to US$1,234.90 an ounce after strategists at Deutsche Bank said much of gold’s correction may have already happened.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up 59 cents, or 3.41 per cent, at $17.89 on 8.3 million shares. The financials sector was ahead 0.75 per cent.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation. Up nine cents, or 1.94 per cent, at $4.74 on 7.1 million shares.

San Gold Corp. (TSX:SGR). Miner. Down one cent, or 9.52 per cent, at 9.5 cents on 3.55 million shares.

Lundin Mining Corp. (TSX:LUN). Miner. Down 14 cents, or 3.59 per cent, at $3.76 on 3.52 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (873.29 down 10.98 points):

Donner Metals Ltd. (TSXV:DON). Metal explorer. Unchanged at five cents on 6.9 million shares.

Unigold Inc. (TSXV:UGD). Miner. Down half a cent, or 7.14 per cent, at 6.5 cents on 3.1 million shares.

Company reporting major news:

Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G). Miner. Down 55 cents, or 2.16 per cent, at $24.91 on 1.8 million shares. The company said Monday that rain has helped put out a forest fire in the James Bay region of Quebec that had threatened its Eleonore gold project. It had pulled most of its employees out of the project last week when the fire was about 100 kilometres away and advancing toward the site with the prevailing winds.

GuestLogix Inc. (TSX:GXI).Up six cents, or 7.69 per cent, at 84 cents on 580,233 shares. The company says it has a deal to provide its onboard retail technology platform to China Southern Airlines, Asia’s largest carrier. No value for the contract was given.
