Toronto Blue Jays activate Lawrie from disabled list, send Kawasaki to triple-A

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays activated Brett Lawrie from the disabled list on Saturday and sent fellow infielder Munenori Kawasaki to the triple-A Buffalo Bisons.

Lawrie, who also missed the start of the season with a ribcage injury, has been out with a left ankle sprain since late May.

In 37 games with the Blue Jays this season, the 23-year-old from Langley, B.C., is batting .209 with five home runs, 14 RBIs and two stolen bases.

The eccentric Kawasaki has been one of the bright spots for a disappointing Toronto team in 2013. In 70 games with the Blue Jays, the 32-year-old is batting .213 with one home run, 20 RBIs and seven steals.
