Jets draft pick Mark Scheifele working hard to make team this season

WINNIPEG – The future of the Winnipeg Jets took the ice Monday as the team opened its development camp at its practice facility in the edge of the city.

This is centre Mark Scheifele’s third and he says he has one thing on his mind — making the team that drafted him in 2011.

Scheifele developed into a major offensive threat in the OHL, leading his Barrie Colts to within one game of qualifying for the Memorial Cup this year.

He was injured and had to watch as the Colts lost Game 7 and missed the tournament.

But he says he’s been working to make himself stronger and able to compete at an NHL level.

The Jets have 22 forwards, 15 defencemen and six goaltenders in camp, which lasts until Friday.
