Firefighters attack small fire near Summerland

SUMMERLAND – B.C. Wildfire Service crews are responding to a fire above Summerland today, July 24.

Investigators along with six firefighters are currently working to extinguish the blaze, located one kilometre up Shingle Creek Road, according to Max Birkner, a fire information officer with B.C. Wildfire Services. He says residents in the area get most of the credit.

“Locals got there fairly fast and were putting it out when the firefighters got there,” said Birkner. “It will be wrapped up pretty quickly we hope.”

The fire is out of the Summerland Fire Department's jurisdiction and therefore they did not respond to the blaze.

Crews are working to determine the cause of the fire.
