Japan Airlines Dreamliner flight to Tokyo returning to Boston after indicator light goes off
BOSTON – A Japan Airlines flight to Tokyo’s Narita Airport is returning to Boston’s Logan Airport because of a possible fuel pump issue on the Boeing 787 aircraft.
It’s the latest woe for the new Dreamliner aircraft after a lithium ion battery problem grounded the whole fleet in January and a fire on an Ethiopian Airlines plane last week.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says the pilot of Japan Airlines Flight 7 didn’t declare an emergency and the aircraft is burning off fuel before landing.
Massachusetts Port Authority spokesman Richard Walsh says the plane is returning “in an abundance of caution” after a maintenance message indictor on the aircraft was displayed.
The airline’s website says Flight 007 had left for Tokyo just before 1 p.m. Thursday for a flight of nearly 14 hours.
