Search resumes at Lac-Megantic blast site with new specialized equipment

LAC-MEGANTIC, Que. – Crews in Lac-Megantic, Que. have resumed their search at the site of this month’s train disaster after a one-day break.

Teams took a short pause on Saturday while waiting for a specialized crane and other equipment to arrive from Montreal.

A few of the derailed rail tankers must be removed before recovery efforts in that area can continue.

Crews have found 42 bodies at the site and are still looking for five more who are feared dead.

Twenty-two of the victims have been identified.

The site of the July 6 crash is considered a crime scene and the downtown is closed to residents.
