Vancouver Whitecaps sign Kenny Miller to six-month contract extension

VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed designated player Kenny Miller to a six-month contract extension.

The Scottish international is now committed to the club through June 2014.

“This is an important move for our club and speaks to the value we place on continuity as we grow,” Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie said in a release Wednesday. “Kenny is a great leader and his contributions both on and off the pitch have been instrumental to the success of our team.”

Miller, 33, has scored eight goals since joining the Whitecaps a year ago.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time in Vancouver and so has my family,” he said. “The fans here are unbelievable, the club is always very professional, and I think we have a special group of players.”

With Miller in the starting lineup, the Whitecaps have posted an 8-2-1 record this season.

He is tied for second in MLS with four winning goals.

Internationally, Miller has scored 17 goals in 68 appearances for the Scottish national team.
