Thieves somehow walk away with three kayaks after accident near Chase

CHASE – An odd traffic accident turned into an even odder theft investigation near Chase earlier this week.

Chase RCMP Cpl. Scott Linklater says in a news release that around 3:35 p.m. on Monday, July 31, police received a report of three kayaks being taken from the side of the Trans-Canada Highway east of Chase.

The kayaks had become dislodged from the owner's vehicle while driving and they struck another vehicle.

Linklater says when the owner was exchanging particulars with the occupants of the damaged vehicle, someone managed to pick up the kayaks and leave the area.

He didn't say if the alleged thief, or thieves, were on foot or in a vehicle.
