UPDATE: No telling how long heavy smoke will stick around Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – There's more hot weather ahead for the rest of this week in Kamloops, but it's not clear when that heavy smoke will lift.

Smoky skies are expected to continue until at least Friday night while Kamloops and area reach temperatures in the mid-30s, according to Environment Canada.

Environment Canada's forecast also indicates that smoke should dissipate by tomorrow, Aug. 4, but take that with a grain of salt as smoke can typically only be forecasted for up to two days at a time.

Until the smoke does clear, take care of yourself. The special air quality statement remains in effect for Kamloops and the Thompson regions, today, as thick smoke continues to create poor air quality and reduce visibility. For your health, it is recommended that you continue to avoid strenuous activity outside. The UV Index also requires some attention as it reaches level eight

That should be the same story Friday but residents will have to wait and see when the smoke will clear.

Saturday is expected to see temperatures reaching 35 C and Sunday even hotter as it approaches 37 C.

The weather office expects the beginning of next week will remain sunny and hot with temperatures north of 35 C.

– This story was corrected at 3:53 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3 to indicate that smoky skies may not clear Friday as Environment Canada anticipated. iNFOnews.ca has since learned Environment Canada can only forecast smoke up to two days in advance.
