RCMP recover stolen boat and trailer from impaired driver in Kelowna

KELOWNA – The RCMP discovered, after an investigation, that the boat seized from an alleged impaired driver was reported as stolen in Sicamous back in May.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 10 a member of the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section responded to an erratic driving complaint and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of a white Dodge pickup truck was hauling a 21-foot Searay Sport boat on a trailer along Glenmore Drive in Kelowna, according to a press release issued today, Aug. 11.
 
After police identified the driver they detected signs of alcohol intoxication. They took the driver into custody so the police could conduct an impaired driving investigation.
 
Further investigation at the scene revealed that boat and trailer were reported stolen from a resort on Mara Lake near Sicamous.
 
The driver, a 30-year-old Kelowna man, provided breath samples nearly twice the legal limit at the Kelowna RCMP Detachment. He faces several potential charges and was held in police custody until he appeared in Kelowna Law Courts.
 
“RCMP remain committed to removing impaired drivers from our roadways,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP. “We continue to encourage motorists to report erratic, dangerous and potential impaired drivers to police, when safe to do so. Tips, such as this one, have the real potential to aid in the capture of those who choose to travel between communities to commit their crimes.”

Police did not release the name of the driver nor what he was charged with.
