Two youth face charges after mob of teens swarm Penticton police

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP had their hands full after a crowd of teenagers became unruly earlier this week.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says officers were called to Lakeshore Drive and Winnipeg Street around 1 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 to find a large gathering of teens in the street.

When police attempted to arrest a 17-year-old boy for causing a disturbance, a 17-year-old girl interfered, kicking a police officer in the head.

Wrigglesworth says numerous youth then swarmed the police, who were able to prevent the scene from escalating.

The girl was arrested and found to possess bear spray. She was charged with assaulting two police officers, obstruction, causing a disturbance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation.

The boy was charged with causing a disturbance and resisting arrest.
