Dog that disappeared in South Okanagan may have turned up in Montreal

PENTICTON – A Naramata family is hoping to be reunited with their dog soon after a bizarre disappearance that eventually saw the dog turn up in Montreal.

Grace Logie and her dog Ruger were on a walk in the mountains above Naramata on Sunday, Aug. 5, when the Husky took off into the woods following a scent.

“It was normal behaviour for Ruger. If he didn’t return when we were walking, he would often beat us back home and be waiting by the door. He often runs off but always returns,” Logie says.

The family searched for the dog, but couldn’t find him. Logie started checking dog pounds and calling vets in the area when the dog didn't come home after a couple of days, but no luck.

She says a couple hiking in the area told her they had seen some what appeared to be transient farm workers with a dog matching Ruger's description. They told the couple the dog was theirs.

Logie reported the missing dog to police, posted a picture of her dog and the details to social media. Meanwhile, she started making inquiries about her missing pet at picker camps in the area, but no sign of Ruger.

Then on Aug. 16, a post to Facebook included two photos of a shorn Husky wearing a cone, on the streets of Montreal. The poster claims the dog was found in the woods in B.C. after someone had abandoned him.

"He had fleas and some other dog bit him on the arm – some guy just left him there. He was a good dog the whole way back," the post reads.

Logie thinks the dog in the Facebook post is Ruger and he ended up in Montreal.

“We are hoping the police will catch the thief or thieves as we are communicating with the RCMP. We still do not know exactly where he is at the moment,” Logie says, adding the family is really missing their dog.
